Vote with your dollar
As a passionate vegan, I have been voting with my dollar for a long time. I recently had a conversation with a dear friend who does the same. The concept is simple. Any human who has gone through a high school education should know the concept of supply and demand. This is the essence of voting with your dollar.
When I became vegan 11 years ago, it was not a trend, and it was a large burden on those around me. However I was so passionate about what I believed ( and continue to believe) in that it worth it to me. Back in 2014 there were hacks about how to make fast food vegan, and the ‘accidently vegan’ products such as Oreos. Most of the time you had to be creative in the Kitchen and eat before attending any event. However, a revolution of animal lovers voted with their dollar, and it is magical what we have accomplished. I rarely check the menu or need to call ahead to restaurants. There are entire sections at grocery stores for plant based items. This is because the demand for those products increased.
Some of you may have been told that one person can’t make a difference, and I always thought that concept was silly. Of course everything we do makes a difference, we have a ripple effect, a sphere of influence. While it may not seem to make a difference at first, it will pull through eventually, because believe it or not, your not the only person with a particular belief or desire.
While I used veganism as an example this applies to everything. Do you want to see more organic produce? Or for it to come at a lower cost? Then for now you must splurge so the companies know it is a worthy investment!
As for the fashion industry, it is vital for you now more than ever to stop purchasing constantly, and invest in quality pieces. But spending more on an item, you are starting a micro-revolution. I am sure if you turn your head you will see thousands of people standing beside you. Start a micro-evolution. Vote with your dollar.
